August Newsletter

To those who think that whales should be protected because they are beautiful and majestic creatures that should not be subjugated to death simply to support the livelihood of whalers and provide delicacies for the rich I say PTOOEY.  Who are you to decide that mosquitoes should die and whales live?  Arbitrary and subjective, and not a valid basis for the protection of whales.

To those who believe that whales should be protected because they are endangered I say PTOOEY.  You clearly do not know anything - or at least anything substantial - about whales.  Whales are not endangered any more than deer.  Certainly there are certain types of deer that are endangered (i.e. Key Deer) and should be warranted our protection, however, unchecked, deer populations grow to be disproportionately large in relation to what the ecosystem is able to support.    To state that whales are endangered is willful naivety.  Certain whales are endangered - and should have access to the protections that accompany such distinction.  Others are certainly not, and thus should not be subject to such restrictions.

We believe whales are important:

They are important in combating climate change, and they are important for maintaining the stability of the most massive ecosystem in the world, and, frankly, the most endangered.  They are beautiful, and many types of whales are endangered, or very near endangered.

We believe whales should be protected.  This can be in the form of a ban on whaling, or carefully regulated using a  cap-and-trade system - or a similar system.

We do NOT believe that peoples should be coerced into an arbitrary agreement regarding whaling restrictions, but rather that to change minds and hearts will have a more lasting positive impact on whales than forcefully restricting actions without regard to a peoples' culture, history, mindset, and attitude.

We believe that any restriction on international whaling should come at the agreement of nations, not the coercion of them.

It is such beliefs which motivate our constituents to speak to others and provide avenues of understanding for those whose whale and whaling IQ have been dampened by the sensationalism of fringe institutions and the simplicity of the press.

Join us.  Save the whales, from one moron at a time.
